Solar energy:
Solar energy is the cleanest and most abundant renewable energy source available – about 173,000 terawatts of solar energy strike the Earth at any given time – more than 10,000 times the world’s total energy needs.
Photovoltaic (PV) devices generate electricity directly from sunlight via an electronic process that occurs naturally in certain types of material. Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels consist of multiple solar cells which are made of silicon, like semiconductors. They are constructed with a positive layer and a negative layer, which together create an electric field.
PV solar panels generate direct current (DC) electricity. With DC electricity, electrons flow in one direction around a circuit. However, alternating current (AC) electricity is used in the vast majority of applications, mainly due to the fact that is transmitted in a more cost-effective way. Another PV Power plant device, the solar inverters are responsible for the transformation of DC electricity from the solar array into useful AC electricity.
solar energy statistics
Solar energy is the cleanest renewable energy source.
Solar PV generation increased by a record 179 TWh (up 22%) in 2021 to exceed 1 000 TWh. It demonstrated the second largest absolute generation growth of all renewable technologies in 2021, after wind.
Solar PV’s installed power capacity is expected to surpass that of coal by 2027, becoming the largest in the world.
